We have already quoted the doctoral thesis of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerd Maurer, «Unternehmensführung im mittelständischen Bauunternehmen» from 1994, several times on the topics of «deployment and capacity planning». So it was clear that we would take part in this event online.
Low productivity in the construction industry is not only found in Switzerland; the German construction industry is also struggling against it.
How can productivity be increased? Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerd Maurer pursued this question in his talk and set out seven strategies for making the construction industry more efficient.
Entering into partnerships, e.g. consortia, in order also to promote a transfer of knowledge between the partners.
The introduction of «lean management in construction» in order to achieve better organisation and a clearer overview, so that the planned tasks can actually be carried out.
Promoting innovation in construction, e.g. the introduction of new manufacturing processes and building materials.
The introduction of marketing in construction.
The introduction of «modular construction» or serial construction, e.g. in timber construction.
Promoting digital transformation, e.g. BIM, 3D, etc. to optimise processes.
Promoting employee development in order to increase competencies. This strategy is regarded as the most important.
Around 150 participants took part in this very interesting talk via a Zoom meeting. At least there is one advantage to this pandemic: we were able to take part in the symposium in Deggendorf comfortably from our home offices. Many thanks to the organisers!
