A few weeks ago we were able to complete our new feature for capacity planning: our new capacity model, which is based on the calculation from the deployment planning. We would like to introduce it to you in today's tips and tricks.

Until now, when creating projects you could choose between two capacity models: absolute values, with which you record the number of people or person-days directly, and levels, with which effort is distributed automatically over the defined project duration. In our new capacity model, as an alternative to absolute values and levels, the effort is now calculated and taken over automatically from the deployment planning. This means your capacity planning always matches the deployment planning and adjusts automatically when assignments change, so nothing has to be entered afterwards.

As you can see in the video, you can set the deployment-based capacity model for individual project phases that have already been created by going into capacity planning in Vanillaplan and opening the context menu with a right click in the relevant phase row. Here you select «Switch to calculation from deployment planning». The new capacity model is now set for this project phase. The people / person-days noted in the capacity planning are now linked to the actual people / person-days from the deployment planning. If changes are made to assignments, the utilisation in the capacity planning is adjusted automatically

To set the new capacity model for entire project phases, open the relevant phase in the master data under Phases and select From deployment planning under Capacity model. When recording new projects, the deployment-based capacity model is now preset for this project phase from the outset.

Our new capacity model is included for you from the Business subscription upwards. If you still have questions, get in touch with us at any time, we are happy to help.
